Belo Interactive web sites win four of 19 regional Murrow Awards

Dallas, TX -- Four Belo Interactive Web sites were recognized Monday by the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) with regional Murrow Awards for the best television Web sites.

KGW.com, the Web site affiliated with KGW-TV (NBC) in Portland; WFAA.com, the Web site affiliated with WFAA-TV (ABC) in Dallas/Fort Worth; and WWLTV.com, the Web site affiliated with WWL-TV (CBS) in New Orleans, were recognized as the best large-market Web sites in their respective regions.

KVUE.com, the Web site affiliated with KVUE-TV (ABC) in Austin, Texas was recognized as the best small-market Web site in its region.

Jim Moroney, president of Belo Interactive, Inc., said, "We are proud to be recognized by the Radio-Television News Directors Association for the high quality journalism, interactivity, functionality, and design our Web sites offer. It is rewarding to be chosen for such a highly regarded honor."

RTNDA has honored outstanding achievement in electronic journalism with the Murrow Awards since 1971, and this year marks the first time the organization has recognized outstanding radio and television Web sites with Murrow Awards. Of the 19 awards presented in the category for best television Web site, four were given to Belo Interactive sites.

Maintaining a Web site that disseminates timely news and information online and generates original news content were among the requirements for entry.

Entries were judged on their ability to be of practical use to the general public and maximize the use of online technology in such a way as to inform and educate the public and enhance the public debate over important daily issues. Entries were also judged on content, innovation, visual design, functionality and interactivity.

Regional winners will be eligible for the national awards competition, which will be judged in early June and presented in September at the RTNDA International Conference & Exhibition in Nashville, Tennessee.
