Belo's monthly Revenue and Statistical Report May 2001
Dallas, TX -- Belo (NYSE: BLC) issued today its statistical report for the month of May. Broadcast Division revenues decreased 10.2 percent for the month of May on a pro forma basis.
Local revenues were down 6 percent while national revenues were down 17 percent. Publishing Division total revenues were down 9.2 percent in May on a pro forma basis, with a 10 percent decrease in advertising revenue.
May Newspaper Linage
At The Dallas Morning News, total full-run advertising linage, including preprints and supplements, was down 5.7 percent over last year. Retail was up 4.0 percent. Despite strength in the automotive and telecom categories, general volume was down 12.1 percent due to the loss of .com advertising and weakness in the financial category.
Classified volumes were down 14.8 percent with a decrease in classified employment volumes of 48 percent.
At The Providence Journal, total full-run advertising linage, including preprints and supplements, decreased 15.7 percent, while total full-run ROP was down 14.9 percent. Retail, general and classified volumes decreased 15.9 percent, 16.7 percent and 14.4 percent, respectively.
