Belo elects two new Directors

Dallas, TX -- Belo(NYSE: BLC) announced today that its Board of Directors elected Louis E. Caldera as a Class III director and Lloyd D. Ward as a Class II director, increasing the size of the Board to 14.

Robert W. Decherd, Belo's chairman, president and chief executive officer, said, "Louis Caldera and Lloyd Ward are two of the most outstanding men of their generation in the United States.

Caldera, 45, is vice chancellor for University Advancement of The California State University in Long Beach, the largest four-year university system in the country.

Previously, following appointment by President Clinton, Caldera was managing director and chief operating officer of the Corporation for National and
Community Service, a federal grant-making agency that supports volunteer service programs (including AmeriCorps, the National Senior Service Corps and Learn and Serve America) from 1997 to 1998, and then Secretary of the Army from
1998 to 2001.

He served in the California State Assembly from 1992 to 1997, representing the 46th District in and around Los Angeles. As an Assemblyman, Caldera chaired various committees and was a member of the Higher Education Committee. Prior to his election to the Assembly, he worked as a deputy general counsel for the
City of Los Angeles and as an attorney in private practice.

Caldera has served on numerous boards and commissions including the National Commission on the Senior Year in High School, the Community Affairs Advisory Committee for The Ad Council, and the Panama Canal Commission. Recent honors include the Department of Defense Distinguished Civilian Award and the U.S.

Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Chairman's Award.

Caldera holds a bachelor of science degree from the United States Military Academy, an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School.

Lloyd D. Ward, 52, most recently served as chairman and chief executive officer of iMotors, the online pre-owned automobile retailer. Prior to that, Ward was
executive vice president, president, and chairman and chief executive officer of Maytag Corporation.

Before joining Maytag in 1996, Ward held executive positions with Procter & Gamble and PepsiCo, Inc..

Ward serves on the boards of J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. and General Motors, and is a member of the Executive Leadership Council, an organization of senior level African-Americans in corporate
roles.

He is a founder and co-chair of Partners in Economic Progress, an Iowa-based organization dedicated to increasing educational and business opportunities for African-Americans.

For his dedication to lifelong learning, creativity, innovation and development of African American youth, Ward received the Center for Creative Leadership's Distinguished Alumni Award.

Ward holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Michigan State University and an M.B.A. from Xavier University.
