Belo's monthly Revenue and Statistical Report July 2001

Dallas, TX -- Belo (NYSE: BLC) issued today its statistical report for the month of July. Broadcast Division revenues decreased 6.9 percent for the month of July on a pro forma basis. Local revenues were up 2.2 percent while national revenues were down 5.8 percent. Political revenues were $2.9 million less than July 2000. Publishing Division total revenues were down 15 percent in July on a pro forma basis.

July Newspaper Linage
At The Dallas Morning News, total full-run advertising linage, including preprints and supplements, was down 15.1 percent over last year. Retail was down 10.8 percent. General volume was down 16.4 percent primarily due to the loss of .com advertising. Classified volumes were down 19.3 percent with continued weakness in classified employment.

At The Providence Journal, total full-run advertising linage, including preprints and supplements, decreased 15.6 percent, while total full-run ROP was down 13.2 percent. Retail and classified volumes decreased 16.8 percent and 13.6 percent, respectively. General volume was up 0.6 percent.
