Statement from The Providence Journal regarding production plant tragedy

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Howard G. Sutton, publisher of The Providence Journal, gave the following statement today after this morning's tragic incidents at the newspaper's production plant and in nearby Warwick.

"The Journal family has suffered a terrible
tragedy today. Our thoughts and our
focus are with our employees and their families," Sutton said. "The investigation is in the hands of the Providence police and other responsible police agencies."

Sutton said The Journal is cooperating fully with law enforcement agencies and that police would distribute any additional information about the incident and the individuals involved.

The Providence Journal, which began publishing in 1829, is the oldest major daily newspaper of general circulation in continuous publication in the United States.
