DallasNews.com publishes "JFK: The Story Behind the Story" CD-ROM
Dallas,TX --Belo Interactive, the Internet subsidiary of Belo Corp., announced that DallasNews.com, the Web site affiliated with The Dallas Morning News, in cooperation with The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, has produced a CD-ROM offering a retrospective of the events surrounding President John F. Kennedy's death from the perspective of the Belo journalists who were there.
JFK: The Story Behind The Story, is the first CD-ROM project of its kind for Belo Interactive, and the culmination of more than five months of work by a small team of editors and designers from Belo Interactive's Dallas Web sites.
The CD-ROM is a compilation of material from interviews with former Belo journalists, archived stories from The Dallas Morning News, and news coverage from WFAA radio and television broadcasts.
"The JFK project is a great example of convergence in action. The project drew from the archives of both The Dallas Morning News and WFAA radio and television, plus supplemental files obtained from The Belo Foundation and the Sixth Floor Museum. Taken together, it's a powerful and sometimes emotional look at what the journalists who covered this story experienced," said Gerry Barker, general manager of Belo Interactive's Dallas Web sites.
First-person accounts written by reporters and photographers of The Dallas Morning News provide unique insights on the challenges journalists faced on that historic day. Audio and video clips of vintage WFAA radio and television broadcasts demonstrate how audiences first learned of the tragic events, and images from the Belo archives show how the photojournalists of The Dallas Morning News captured history from behind their viewfinders.
"We believe this CD-ROM is a keepsake for all students of history in general and of the assassination of President Kennedy in particular," said John Banks, DallasNews.com's senior editor in charge of the JFK CD-ROM project.
A special "Then and Now" pictorial section shows how time has changed pivotal Dallas locations since Kennedy's death, and an interactive chronology provides a minute-by-minute account of four days that changed the nation forever.
JFK: The Story Behind The Story, $9.95 plus shipping, is available online now at http://www.dallasnews.com/jfk/ or by calling 1-800-729-0992. The CD-ROM is also available at The Sixth Floor Museum's bookstore, 411 Elm Street, in downtown Dallas.
