NorthWest NewsChannel 8 wins five Regional Emmy Awards

Portland, OR-- KGW Northwest NewsChannel 8 received more Emmy Awards than any other television station in Portland at the 40th Annual Northwest Regional Emmy Awards held on June 21, 2003 in Seattle,Washington.
Awards given to the station were:

Best Newscast "NewsChannel 8 @ 11" Lisa Helderop, producer

Best Daily News "NewsChannel 8 @ 5 KGW News Staff

Best Spot News Story "Black Butte Fire" Kelly Love, reporter
Mike Galimanis, photojournalist

Best News Specialty Reporting "Portland City Hall" Randy Neves, reporter

Best Photography-24 Hours "Worth Waiting For" Kurt Austin, photojournalist

The Emmy Awards are presented annually by the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences. The Northwest chapter includes markets from Alaska, Montana, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.

Among the six Portland commercial stations and one non-commercial stations, KGW won the most amount of Emmys (five). Overall, the Belo properties in the Northwest took home 20 statues overall, including KGW (Portland) with 5, KING5 (Seattle) with 13, KTVB (Boise) with 1 and Northwest Cable News with 1.
