Number One Sign-on/Sign-off finish for third straight rating period
NewsChannel 3 remains the TV station most watched by Phoenix viewers, and its local news also the most viewed according to the just released Nielsen TV ratings for July 2003. The July performance marks the third consecutive rating sweep victory achieved in 2003 by NewsChannel 3, following a number one ranking in the February and May rating periods. The station's performance in July also marks the sixth consecutive win in the July television ratings going back to 1998.
NewsChannel 3, the nation's #1 independent television station, attracted more viewers than any other television station in 14 of the 21 hours between 5:00 a.m. and 2:00 a.m., led by Good Morning Arizona from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., Good Evening Arizona from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and the top syndicated programs of Oprah, Dr. Phil and Entertainment Tonight.
With a 4.4 household rating sign-on to sign-off (5a-2a), NewsChannel 3 has a 42% advantage over KPNX and KSAZ, which delivered a 3.1 and 3.0 household rating respectively. Even when factoring out the impact of televised Arizona Diamondbacks baseball games on the station, top-rated NewsChannel 3 delivered a number one finish with a 3.6 household rating.
Newschannel 3 also maintained its position as the most watched television news operation among all Phoenix television stations according to the July Nielsen TV ratings. Of the top ten highest rated newcasts in the market, NewsChannel 3 produces five, while KSAZ produces three and KPNX two.
In those weekday time periods where all television stations are programming local news at the same time, NewsChannel 3 newscasts reach more local news viewers, out-delivering KPNX by 17% and KSAZ by 31%. For total overall local news viewing during weekdays, ratings for NewsChannel 3's newscasts out-delivered KSAZ and KPNX by 39% and 129% respectively.
