Providence Journal Company pleased with contract vote

Providence, RI -- The Providence Journal Company announced tonight their pleasure with the Providence Newspaper Guild AFL-CIO, Local #31041 vote of 238 to 15 to approve the newspaper's latest contract offer, which extends through December 2007. The Newspaper Guild represents over 400 employees of News, Advertising and other selective operating departments at the Journal.

"We are pleased by the ratification vote and congratulate the Guild executive committee, administrator and both negotiating committees," said Howard G. Sutton, chairman, president and chief executive officer of The Providence Journal Company and publisher of The Providence Journal newspapers.

"This agreement will allow all of us to continue our focus on maintaining The Providence Journal as the premier news and information provider and advertising vehicle for Rhode Island and southeastern New England," added Sutton.
