KREM 2 news #1 in latest Nielsen Ratings - station also #1 sign-on to sign-off
Spokane, WA --The November ratings are in, and CBS affiliate KREM Television continues to strengthen its position as the most watched news organization in the Inland Northwest. KREM 2 also pulls away from the competition in early fringe with dominating performances by "Dr. Phil" and "Oprah."
KREM 2 News is number-one at 5pm, 6pm and 10pm ("The News at 10" on WB22). And in the 11pm time period, KREM 2 is tied for number #1 in the coveted Adult 25-54 demo.
"We're extremely excited about the November ratings," said Bud Brown, Vice President and General Manager of KREM Television. "With each rating period we have grown in almost all areas, and this latest report confirms this trend. It is a testimony to the quality and hard work of our employees."
Riding the strength of a main anchor team composed of Randy Shaw, Nadine Woodward, Charles Rowe, Tom Sherry and Tom Hudson, KREM 2 News increased its weekday news numbers significantly from the previous year. However in November 2003, the station's success also extended beyond the main newscasts, with over-all increases being posted in the early morning ("KREM 2 News First Edition") and the weekend newscasts.
Here's a quick rundown of the November 2003 Nielsen news ratings:
At 5pm, KREM 2 News leads with a 12 rating, 26 share and a 5 demo (A25-54). KHQ received a 7/16 and 4 demo, and KXLY received 6/12 and 3 demo. At 6pm, KREM 2 News leads with a 10/19 and 5 demo, KHQ received an 8/14 and 4 demo and KXLY received a 5/11 and 3 demo. At 11pm, KREM received a 4/20 and 3 demo, KHQ received a 4/22 and 3 demo and KXLY received a 3/16 and 2 demo. In other news, "The CBS Evening News with Dan Rather" also won in the Spokane DMA. And in the morning at 6am, "KREM 2 News First Edition" grew audience share and took second place honors for the first time in nine years.
KREM 2 News ratings and demos are up year-to-year, while the other stations saw declines in the evening and late newscasts. "In November, the Inland Northwest had two days of wind storms followed by four consecutive snow storms," said Rich Lebenson, KREM 2 Executive News Director. "KREM 2 News led the way everyday in breaking weather coverage."
Notable non-news ratings include KREM 2 posting year-to-year gains with CBS prime time, "Dr. Phil" at 3pm, and "Oprah" at 4pm. "Dr. Phil" won its time-period with a 9 rating, 34 share and 4 demo (A25-54). "Oprah" won the 4pm time-period with a 10/31 and 5 demo.
