KHOU to hold its 17th annual Spirit of Texas Food Drive

Houston, TX -- KHOU-TV Channel 11 will hold its 17th annual Spirit of Texas Food Drive, on Friday, July 16, from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The food drive will benefit the Houston Food Bank and will be held at the Channel 11 studios at 1945 Allen Parkway.

The Spirit of Texas Food Drive is the largest food drive in Houston during the summer months and is important for this critical time of need when children are out of school.

Channel 11 will broadcast segments about the ongoing drive to help raise awareness and encourage participation. Volunteers will be on hand throughout the day to accept "drive-through" donations. A phone bank will also be set-up and financial donations may be pledged by calling 713-284-8877.

Non-perishable food donations will be accepted now through July 16, at the Channel 11 studios and Chase Bank branch locations. Cash donations are also being accepted at Chase locations and area Kroger stores.

In addition to KHOU-TV, Spirit of Texas Food Drive sponsors include, Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center, Kroger, JP Morgan Chase Bank, Reliant Energy and Pappas Restaurants.

Last year, the Spirit of Texas Food Drive generated more than 300,000 pounds of food and over $260,000 in cash donations. The Houston Food Bank distributes more than 27 million pounds of food and other essentials each year to 400 hunger-relief programs in an 18-county service area.
