KHOU-TV's 17th Annual Spirit of Texas food drive a success

Houston, TX -- KHOU-TV Channel 11 held another successful food drive this year, generating more than $200,000 in cash donations and over 400,000 pounds of food for The Houston Food Bank. Food donations were up from 300,000 pounds and cash donations to the phone bank quadrupled over the 2003 drive. The Spirit of Texas Food Drive was held on Friday, July 16 inside the Channel 11 studios.

The Spirit of Texas Food Drive is the largest food drive in Houston during the summer months. The drive is important during this critical time of need when children are out of school. Volunteers worked throughout the day sorting donated food and packing individual boxes for families in need.

Sponsors for the food drive included Reliant Energy, JP Morgan Chase, Kroger, Pappas and the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center. The 18th Annual Spirit of Texas Food Drive is scheduled for Friday, July 15, 2005.
