Portland man wins singing competition with perfect score

Portland, OR -- Geoff Byrd of Portland, Oregon, who originally won July 12's semi-final show, was chosen as the Grand Prize winner of NewsChannel 8's "GM Murray Chevrolet Gimme the Mike Presented by Taco Bell" airing live on Tuesday, August 3. Geoff sang "Sorry Seems to be the Saddest Word" by Elton John, and achieved a perfect score of 30 from the three judges.

The June weekend of auditions and five semi-finalist elimination rounds during July culminated in the exciting live broadcast last night. Geoff Byrd won a 2004 Chevy TrailBlazer from Murray Chevrolet. The show was hosted by long-time KGW personality Bruce Sussman.

Throughout the six weeks of competition, the judges were famed Northwest recording artist Linda Hornbuckle, Music Director and mid-day personality Sheryl Stewart of 105.1 The Buzz and Keri Murphy, President of Portland's ABC Model Talent Managerment.

The show's producer was Victoria Elliott and the executive producer was Brenda Buratti.
