Kirk Szesny named executive in charge for University of Louisville sports production

Louisville, KY -- WHAS11 has announced that Kirk Szesny will be the executive in charge of production for University of Louisville sports programming. He will manage the hiring and assigning of all production responsibilities and be the station's primary liaison for the University of Louisville's Athletic Department, third party production companies, and distribution of ancillary sporting events.

"Kirk Szesny is the ideal person for the job," said WHAS11 General Manager Robert Klingle. "Kirk's management of the creative process and creative people is outstanding. He will bring great production values to games and coaches shows. " Szesny will continue to execute his responsibilities as WHAS11's director of marketing and creative services.

Beginning in the fall of 2005, WHAS11 will become the official television station for the University of Louisville Athletic Association, Inc. The five-year agreement with University of Louisville Athletic Association, Inc. gives WHAS11 the rights to broadcast basketball and football games, its basketball and football coaches' shows, a general athletic department show, and other varsity sports events for the 2005-2010 seasons. The agreement also includes an option for two five-year renewals upon completion of the contract.

Szesny joined WHAS11 as director of creative services in May '02. Prior to joining WHAS11, he was director of marketing and programming with KIRO-TV, a Cox station in Seattle. Prior to KIRO, he was with Hearst-Argyle for 19 years beginning in 1980 at WISN in Milwaukee in various production capacities with local programming and then on to WDTN as a promotion writer/producer and subsequently director of creative services in Dayton from 1986 to 1992, then as director of creative services at WTAE in Pittsburgh from 1992 to 1999.

Szesny is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, with a B.A. in mass communication and fine arts. He enjoys sports, music, and spending time with his wife Jayne and two sons, Derek and Tyler.
