KGW Northwest newschannel 8 medals in Athens

Portland, OR -- As it did for the 2002 Winter Olympics, KGW Northwest NewsChannel 8 finished the sixteen days of Olympics competition as the second highest-rated television station in prime time among fifty-six metered markets in America.

In 2002, NewsChannel 8 had the second highest-rated Olympics prime time share in the nation. As in 2002, only Salt Lake City's Olympics share was higher. Across all of NBC 's networks, coverage of the Athens Olympics attracted 203 million total unduplicated viewers, making it the most viewed non-U.S. Summer Games in history, according to Nielsen Media Research.

In addition, NewsChannel 8 increased its ratings for every newscast during the Athens over the highly-successful Sydney Games in 2000.

During the entire course of the Games, NewsChannel 8's Stephanie Stricklen filed live reports during NewsChannel 8 @ Sunrise and on weekend mornings as well as taped reports during NewsChannel 8 @ 5. All reports were shot and edited by photojournalist Rod Stevens and coordinated by Executive Producer Ray Fanning.

Coverage of the Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy runs February 10-26, 2006. The next Summer Olympics are August 8-24, 2008 in Beijing, China. The Olympics return to North America February 12-26, 2010 in Vancouver, Canada.
