KGW tops all NBC stations during third Presidential debate

Portland, OR -- It's another reflection of the Northwest's strong interest in the upcoming election. KGW was the nation's highest-rated NBC affiliate among fifty-six metered markets during the third Presidential debate between George W. Bush and John Kerry on Wednesday, October 13 from 6-7:30 pm. Northwest NewsChannel 8 was also the top-rated metered NBC affiliate in the nation for the Vice Presidential debate last Tuesday, October 5.

Ratings Wednesday for the country's top five NBC stations were:

KGW Portland: 16.1 rating/26.3 share
WDIV Detroit: 15.3 rating/19.5 share
WTHR Indianapolis: 15.2 rating/21.7 share
WPTV West Palm Beach: 15.1 rating/20.4 share
WKYC Cleveland: 14.7 rating/19.5 share

KGW had the highest share of any NBC, CBS, ABC or UPN affiliate in the nation.

During the 6-8 pm time period Wednesday night, NewsChannel 8 and NBC topped all competitors in Portland:

KGW 16.1 rating/26.3 share
KOIN 8.0 rating/13 share
KATU 7.5 rating/12 share
KPTV (Yankees/Red Sox) 5.6 rating/ 9 share

Continuing with its coverage of Decision 2004 on a local level, NewsChannel 8 and The Oregonian will televise a live hour-long Portland mayoral debate on Tuesday, October 26 at 7 pm between Jim Francesconi and Tom Potter.
