Providence Journal Santa Fund kicks off 81st season

Providence, RI -- The Providence Journal Santa Fund, which provides holiday toys for local children in need, kicks off its 81st season today.

Last season the Journal Santa Fund raised $149,422.18 and distributed 44,000 toys to local families with children ages one through 12 years. Funds for the charity come from a variety of sources including readers, corporate gifts, employee fundraisers, student fundraisers, family remembrances, birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions.

Every donation appears in a weekly Santa Fund ad that s published Mondays throughout the campaign in The Providence Journal and is posted on the Journal's Web site, The Santa Fund is an IRS-certified charitable organization holding a 501(c)3 status.
