KHOU-TV wins 10 O'Clock news in November sweeps
Houston, TX -- KHOU-TV Channel 11 is Houston's news leader at 10 p.m., according to Nielsen Media Research.* KHOU averaged an 11.6 rating -- almost two rating points higher than its closest competitor and improving its own rating from 10.1 in May.
"The 10 O'clock news is the record newscast of the day. You want to win them all, but since more people are home and available to watch at ten, it's the one you want the most," said Mike Devlin, vice president and news director of KHOU. "I'm very proud of our staff, particularly the Defenders and the investigations they uncovered night after night in November that pushed us ahead of the other stations. I'm glad more viewers stayed up to watch 11News in November."
KHOU finished second at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. and finished second in the morning and at noon. Channel 11 won the 4 p.m. time period as usual with the Oprah Winfrey Show. KHOU also won prime access at 6:30 p.m. with Wheel of Fortune. KHOU wins prime time with help from CBS and a strong prime time line-up. CBS and KHOU had eight of the top 10 ranked prime shows in November. Houston is the nation's eleventh largest television market.
