Redfern named publisher and chief executive officer of The Press-Enterprise

RIVERSIDE, CA - Belo Corp. (NYSE: BLC) announced today that Ronald Redfern has been named publisher and chief executive officer of The Press-Enterprise in Riverside, California, effective July 5, 2005. Redfern will assume the responsibilities previously held by David Cornwall, who retired this January as publisher and chief executive officer.

Redfern will report to Cass in his new leadership role. He served most recently as president of the Florida Communications Group, which includes The Tampa Tribune, WFLA-TV (NBC) and TBO.com, for Media General, Inc. Before assuming those responsibilities in 2003, Redfern spent 25 years managing several major media operations in Southern California. From 1991 to 2003, he served in senior management roles at Freedom Communications, Inc., including senior vice president of sales for Freedom's Metro Division, and president and division president of Freedom's interactive business. Redfern also led The Orange County Register as president and chief operating officer after making an impact as senior vice president of sales and marketing, managing the paper's advertising, circulation, sales and marketing; director of marketing; and vice president of production. Redfern started his media career in 1977 with Harte-Hankes Communications, Inc., where he quickly demonstrated his capabilities in various management assignments in the company's PennySaver Direct Mail Shoppers operation. Redfern earned a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing from California State University, Northridge, where he was graduated magna cum laude.

Redfern is a member of the board of directors of the Tampa Bay Partnership and the Alexis de Tocqueville Society of the United Way of Tampa Bay. He has also served on the boards of the California Newspaper Publishers Association, the Newspaper First Sales Agency Partnership, the Orange County Business Council and the Orange County Business Committee of the Arts.
