Belo television stations win 33 regional Murrow Awards, leading all media companies nationwide
Web Sites Receive Top Award in Six of Seven Regions
Dallas, TX - Belo Corp. (NYSE: BLC) announced today that 10 of its television stations earned 33 regional Edward R. Murrow Awards for 2006, leading all other media companies nationwide in the total number of awards received. The Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) presents the Murrow Awards to honor outstanding achievements in electronic journalism and recognize news organizations for continuing to set the standard in the broadcast news profession.

Belo stations competed in seven of the 13 Murrow regions this year and received awards in categories ranging from overall excellence to newscast, spot news coverage and investigative reporting. In six of the seven regions, the Company's television stations won awards for the best broadcast-affiliated Web site (KGW-TV in Portland, KTVB in Boise, KMOV-TV in St. Louis, KHOU-TV in Houston, WWL-TV in New Orleans and WVEC-TV in Hampton/Norfolk). In Region 6, KHOU-TV in Houston won the newest Murrow Award category -- feature: hard news -- as well as five other awards. Also in Region 6, KVUE-TV in Austin won three awards, bringing to nine the total number of awards won by these two Belo stations out of 26 possible awards in this region. WWL-TV in New Orleans received six of 10 possible awards in the Region 9 large-market category, including an award for continuing coverage. KMOV-TV in St. Louis won five of 13 possible awards in the Region 5 large-market category.
In Region 1, Belo stations won eight of 23 awards in the categories in which they competed. KING-TV in Seattle/Tacoma won four awards, KGW-TV in Portland won two awards, and KREM-TV in Spokane and KTVB in Boise each received one award. In Region 8, WCNC-TV in Charlotte won three awards. In Region 12, WVEC-TV in Hampton/Norfolk received two awards in the large-market category.

The RTNDA presented a total of 306 regional awards to 159 television stations this year, and has recognized outstanding achievements in electronic journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971. Murrow Award recipients demonstrate the spirit of excellence that
Edward R. Murrow made a standard for the broadcast news profession. Regional winners are eligible for national awards that will be announced later this year.
