PORTLAND, OR -- KGW Northwest NewsChannel 8's twenty-fifth annual Great Toy Drive broke all previous records in collecting toys for children across Oregon and Southwest Washington. Over 65,000 toys were donated and distributed to seventy agencies serving needy children in ten counties.
Among the donations were a record number of bicycles complete with helmets to ensure safe riding.
"The generosity of our viewers is astonishing. Our entire studio, hallway, and lobby were packed with toys," said Paul Fry, Northwest NewsChannel 8's President and General Manager. "Much of our success goes to our two great sponsors, Les Schwab Tire Centers and Regence BlueCross BlueShield. Their commitment and support was critical throughout the campaign."
Collection sites included Les Schwab Tire Centers, the Regence BlueCross BlueShield offices in downtown Portland, and the Northwest NewsChannel 8 studio.
