WHAS11 News Wins "BEST NEWSCAST" at the AP Awards
Louisville, KY - WHAS11 News was honored with the "Best Newscast in Kentucky" first place award at the 2007 Associated Press awards presentation this past Tuesday. The station also won first place awards in the "Best Spot News" and "Best in Show" categories for its coverage of the warehouse fire on March 17, 2006. WHAS11 News Director Aaron Ramey congratulated the entire station staff and said "Viewers vote us as the very best every day for our coverage and commitment to the day's Top Story, Breaking News and First Alert StormTeam weather coverage. The Associate Press award affirms what our viewers already know."
The WHAS11 News team also received honorable mentions for "Best Spot News" coverage of the Comair Crash on August 27, 2006 and "Best Continuing Coverage" for a series of reports on a local teacher who called a student the n-word. In addition WHAS11 News Reporter Chuck Olmstead and photographer Pete Ruiz received honorable mention for their "Perps in the Parks" CrimeTracker Investigation that aired September 29, 2006.
