KTVK to Carry Diamondbacks Baseball in HD
Powerhouse Indy will Broadcast Thirty Home Games in HD
Phoenix KTVK will begin broadcasting its local news in high definition April 26, 2007 and announced today it will also broadcast Diamondbacks baseball games in HD beginning April 25, 2007. The games will be made available in high definition in partnership with KTVK, the Arizona Diamondbacks and Cox Communications.
KTVK president and general manager Mark Higgins said, "This is a great partnership that benefits our viewers. I'm delighted we will be able to give our avid Diamondbacks fans the opportunity to view the games in high definition. Phoenix is a top sports city so we want to lead the way in HD."
All thirty of KTVK's 2007 Diamondback home game telecasts will be broadcast in HD. Diamondbacks president Derrick Hall said, "We are thrilled KTVK and the Diamondbacks will offer all the games in high definition. KTVK's commitment to HD programming throughout the day is yet another reason why the station remains such a strong and significant staple within our market. We both have an interest in providing the highest quality telecast for our great fans, so the investment is well worth it for the viewing and fan experience."
This partnership also provides Cox Communications customers their first opportunity to experience KTVK's Diamondback games in high definition beginning with the game at 6:30 p.m. on April 25, 2007.
Cox Arizona's vice president of community relations Ivan Johnson said, "Whenever our customers experience the power of high definition TV in their homes, they are seeing the best technology has to offer. This, coupled with the excitement of watching the Diamondbacks, is really the best and the best."
This is the 10th year KTVK has been the Diamondbacks television partner. The partnership transcends on-air broadcasts and includes fan appreciation days and an Official Forecaster weather program with forecasts on the jumbotron during home games. This year, KTVK and the Diamondbacks will host a Military Game Day May 6th to honor Arizona's troops overseas. The game will be broadcast to troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
In addition to the Diamondback games, KTVK will produce 48.5 hours of local news a week in high definition, more than any station in the country. Cox Cable will air KTVK in HD on digital channel 703. All high definition programs produced by KTVK will continue to be available in standard definition for viewers with analog television sets. KTVK also has a joint venture with Cox Cable the Arizona News Channel which rebroadcasts its newscasts in standard definition. KTVK produces a local morning show, Your Life A-Z, which will also be produced in high definition.
