WVEC-TV13 Honored with Five Emmy Awards

WVEC-TV13 was recognized with five Emmy Awards for News, Creative Services and Production at the 49th Emmy Awards, held Saturday, June 16, in Washington DC.

Excellence in Newscast: Morning/Daytime was awarded to 13NEWS DAYBREAK, anchored by LaSalle Blanks and Janet Roach. Meteorologist Craig Moeller and Ms.Roach were on hand to accept for their colleagues Joe Flanagan, Carl Leimer and photographer Jason Walsh. 13NEWS DAYBREAK is produced by Brenda Carden.

13NEWS AT 5:00 received an Emmy award for Best Evening Newscast. Anchored by Regina Mobley, Sandra Parker and produced by Bob Bennett.

13NEWS Medical Editor Kathryn Barrett accepted the award for Continuing Coverage within 24 Hours. "I'm very proud of the 13NEWS team and their accomplishments," said Rich Lebenson, Executive News Director, WVEC-TV13. " the entire 13NEWS Team delivered exceptional coverage to protect and inform viewers during the 2006 November Nor'easter," Lebenson added.

WVEC-TV13 Creative Services was honored for Best News Promotion: Campaign. The 13NEWS WEATHER LAB: HURRICANE WATCH, produced by Matt Earl, Eugene Gonzales and Katie King. In addition to this category, WVEC.COM's promotional visuals were shot by Phil Wright, who was honored with Best Photographer: Short Form.

"It's quite a remarkable, creative team here at WVEC-TV13," said Matt Earl, Director of Creative Services and Production " across the board, their commitment in reaching for original ideas and setting the bar on each product is a true testament to their creative spirit," Earl added.

The National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences was established in 1959 and is an organization comprised of more than 700 television broadcast professionals dedicated to fostering and recognizing outstanding achievements in television production throughout the National Capital Chesapeake Bay region.
