KGW Northwest NewsChannel 8 Wins Thirty-First Consecutive Sweeps

PORTLAND, OR - The July sweeps concluded August 1, and KGW Northwest NewsChannel 8 won the sign-on to sign-off battle for the thirty-first consecutive sweeps. The station continued to demonstrate its position as the area's news leader.

Weekdays, Northwest NewsChannel 8 is the number one local news at noon, 5, 6, 6:30, and 11 p.m.. NewsChannel 8's 5 p.m. news, the newscast of record, holds a 38 percent advantage in share over its closest competitor, and in the late news time period, NewsChannel 8 at 11 holds a 20 percent lead.

The expansion of NewsChannel 8 at Sunrise to a 4:30 a.m. start doubled the audience in the early morning half-hour over last July, capturing the growing appetite for news in the early morning hours.

NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams continued as the number one national newscast in Portland and southwest Washington.

Northwest NewsChannel 8's strength continued throughout the weekends, winning every newscast on both days. The morning newscasts commanded a 50 percent advantage in share over the closest competitor in the 7-9 a.m. block.
