Two KING 5 Healthlink Specials Win Gracie Awards
Seattle, WA American Women in Radio and Television has announced that two KING 5 Healthlink programs have won top awards. The Gracie Award, recognizing exemplary programming created for women, by women and about women, was bestowed on the Healthlink special 25 Things You Can Do To Prevent Cancer and the Children's Healthlink Special: Inside the O.R. Both programs are hosted by KING 5's Jean Enersen.
Winning for "Outstanding Magazine Show in a Top 25 Market," 25 Things You Can Do To Prevent Cancer offers a practical approach to cancer prevention. One in three people will be diagnosed with the disease during their lifetime. Experts believe two-thirds of all cancer cases can be prevented if we would just make the right lifestyle choices. In an attempt to improve our odds, this Healthlink Special outlines simple practical changes each of us can make in our daily lives.
Children's Healthlink: Inside the O.R. received the top award for "Outstanding Reality Show in a Top 25 Market." This amazing program takes us inside the operating room at Children's Hospital on a typical drizzly Tuesday. Twelve operating rooms are readied for use, but the staff isn't sure what the emergencies will be. We watch the drama unfold as tremendous effort goes into making the families feel at home, and we see the quality diagnosis and care that each child receives using state-of-the-art equipment and procedures.
The Gracie Awards, established in 1975, are presented by the Foundation of American Women in Radio and Television (AWRT) in an effort to encourage the realistic and multifaceted portrayal of women in entertainment, commercials, news, features and other programs.
