KTVK Receives National Award for Exemplary Public Service

PHOENIX -- KTVK-TV (3TV, Arizona's Family), the powerhouse independent television station, has won the 10th annual National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation (NABEF) 2008 Service to America Partnership Award, the only one of its kind given in the broadcast television industry. This prestigious award recognizes outstanding community service by local broadcasters.

3TV, Arizona's Family has won this coveted award for its "Are You My Family?" adoption program, which finds loving homes for some of Arizona's 10,000 foster children. In partnership with two local non-profits Aid to Adoption of Special Kids and Fore Adoption Foundation founded by PGA Golfer Kirk Triplett and his wife Cathi, 64 children have been featured on KTVK's newscasts and on a special website developed for this program. 38 of these children have been placed in homes since its inception in June 2006. This is well over twice the rate at which these children are typically adopted.

Kirk Triplett, President of the Fore Adoption Foundation said, "Our goal is to show that foster care is where these children are, not who they are. One of the reasons for the program's success is television's ability to show the community that these are normal, everyday kids who, through no fault of their own, need a home. Without 3TV's dedication and commitment, many of these children would still be waiting. Now I know why 3TV really is Arizona's Family."

In November 2007, 3TV produced a special primetime program to explain the adoption process and feature some of the many children awaiting adoption. "Are You My Family?" has also helped to increase the number of volunteer tutors and mentors for these children. Hometown weathercaster April Warneke is the program's ambassador for 3TV.

3TV will be honored at the Celebration of Service to America Awards dinner on Monday, June 9th at The National Building Museum in Washington, D.C.
