The Streak Continues: KGW NewsChannel 8 #1 for 34th Consecutive Sweeps Period

PORTLAND, OR -- Number One, again. For the ratings period that started Thursday, April 24th and ended Wednesday, May 21st, KGW NewsChannel 8 maintained its position as the top source for local news in the Portland market. The Belo Corp. affiliate was the most watched station from sign-on to sign-off for the 34th straight sweeps. The remarkable streak now stands at eight years and counting.

"We feel very privileged to be the market's most preferred source for news and information," said KGW News Channel 8 General Manager D.J. Wilson. "With the largest TV news gathering organization in the state, we are committed to bigger coverage, deeper coverage, and richer coverage in everything we do."

KGW NewsChannel 8 at Sunrise can lay claim to the most watched news in the morning, capturing the competitive 430am to 700am block. The weekday newscasts at Noon, 5pm, 6pm, and 630p also won their time slots.

"We are so honored that once again viewers made KGW NewsChannel 8 the most-watched television news in Oregon and Southwest Washington," added KGW News Director Rod Gramer. "We work hard every day to bring viewers the best news content in the region."

Every sweeps period is not only important from an advertising perspective, but from a content stand-point, giving stations a chance to stretch creatively and journalistically.

"In May", said Gramer, "We focused a lot of attention helping people deal with the tough economy. We had a series of stories called "Stretching Your Dollar" to help them handle all the rising prices they are facing, including skyrocketing gas prices."

"We are so pleased that once again viewers put their trust in us during the May book."
