KENS 5 Wins Big Honors at Lone Star Awards

KENS 5 earned four prestigious news honors -- more than any other San Antonio television station -- at the 2008 Lone Star Awards, presented by the Houston Press Club.

KENS 5 Photographer Michael Humphries was named Television Photojournalist of the Year. Humphries has earned an impressive array of Emmy and Associated Press awards for his work.

KENS 5 Photographer Patricia Norman won first place in the "Editing" competition, cited for her visual creativity in the piece "Taking on Taggers."

Veteran KENS 5 anchor Chris Marrou, along with photographer Chris Day, won third place in the "Soft News Feature" category for their teamwork on the report titled "Hottest Chili Pepper."

And the KENS 5 entire news staff was honored, winning third place in the "Hard News Feature" category for KENS 5's live team coverage of the "Dangling Driver."

"Once again, members of the KENS 5 Eyewitness news team have been recognized by our peers in the industry as the very best in Texas," said KENS 5 President and General Manager Bob McGann. "The viewers have already chosen KENS 5 as South Texas' number one news source, but to be recognized for excellence by our colleagues is a very great honor."

"This news team continues to perform at an outstanding level every single day," said KENS 5 Executive News Director Kurt Davis. "Whether they're covering spot news and breaking stories or producing special in-depth reports, our team is dedicated to serving this community the very best in journalism and the highest standards of excellence."
