Major Trade and Professional Awards Shower AlDia
Major organizations recognize AL DIA with 11 awards.
DALLAS (April 21, 2008) Al Dia, the leading Spanish-language daily in North Texas and sister publication of The Dallas Morning News received 11 awards during the month of April.
"This is a testament to the quality and effort of the very talented Staff from AL DIA" said Alejandro Sanchez Publisher of AL DIA.
Several organizations recognized the outstanding work produced by what many times has been considered the most talented group of individuals in the Spanish news publishing industry, both in print and online.
The awards reflect the passion of the staff and the intimate knowledge of the community, specially our readers and the local issues that reflect the local life style of the North Texas and the news events that affect the Hispanic community in North Texas
The Texas Associated Press of Managing Editors awarded AL DIA 3 trophies for excellence in journalism:
Two Golden Awards and an honorable mention were received by TAPME: Vanesa Salinas won the Gold in the category of Features for her story on "CHESSE"; Carlos Nava also won a Golden Award for his Tony Romo feature. AL DIA also won an honorable mention in the news category by Sergio Chapa for his report on "Cheese" Heroin
During the national convention of NAHP the National Association of Hispanic Publications in Atlanta AL DIA received 7 awards.
Vanesa Salinas won a Golden Award in the category of the written word.
Al DIA also got a Golden award for the best marketing campaign.
Two Silver wards were received, in the category of the written word: Octavio Rivera received this recognition and in the category of Photos and cartoons Ben Torres received the trophy.
Three Bronze awards were also received; Lorena Flores in the category of the written word Entertainment section. Sergio Chapa received the Bronze for his work in as series of articles and Ben Torres also received a Bronze award in the category of Community photography.
Vanessa Salinas received the Medal of Honor, for the fourth consecutive year the "School Bell Award" for outstanding journalism given by TSA (Texas State Teachers Association).
