KING 5 Launches Northwest Response to Help Victims of Hurricane Ike

SEATTLE, WA -- KING 5 has launched Northwest Response, a KING 5 effort put into place when a disaster strikes to help collect cash donations from viewers to help victims of Hurricane Ike, which ravaged families and businesses in southeast Texas. Donations are accepted at any US Bank in western Washington, on-line at www.seattleredcross.org or viewers can also mail a check to Northwest Response, c/o KING 5, P.O. Box 19640, Seattle, WA 98109. All donations collected will go to the American Red Cross Hurricane Fund.

"We are always amazed and pleased with the response of our community when we ask them to step up and help others." said Pat Costello, vice president and station manager of KING 5, king5.com, KONG 6/16 and NorthWest Cable News.

Northwest Response was initiated by KING 5 following the Tsunami of 2004. More than $400,000 was raised to benefit Mercy Corps, Northwest Medical Teams (now called Medical Teams International) and World Vision.

The second effort came with Hurricane Katrina with $708,000 donated to the American Red Cross. Last year, Northwest Response helped with support the American Red Cross' relief fund, collecting $55,000 to help people displaced when they lost their homes in the southern California wildfires. In December 2007, the local chapters of the American Red Cross were given close to $500,000 for Northwest Response to help aid families in southwest Washington who lost their homes and businesses after the severe winter storms.
