KING 5's Jean Enersen to Moderate FINAL Gregoire-Rossi Debate

Live Debate Follows McCain-Obama October 15

Seattle, WA -- The Washington gubernatorial race reaches a fever pitch October 15 when KING 5, The Seattle Times, NorthWest Cable News, public radio's Northwest News Network and KREM-TV host the final debate between incumbent Democratic Governor Christine Gregoire and the Republican challenger Dino Rossi. KING 5's Jean Enersen will moderate the live debate with panelists KING 5 anchor Allen Schauffler, Seattle Times staff reporter Andrew Garber and Northwest News Network political correspondent Austin Jenkins. The Gregoire-Rossi face-off is the only statewide debate scheduled. The political duel will air from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. following the final presidential debate between Sen. John McCain and Sen. Barack Obama. The McCain-Obama debate begins at 6 p.m. PDT on KING 5 and public radio stations statewide.

The Washington gubernatorial debate is ignited by a colorful history of sparring between Gregoire and Rossi. Four years ago, Gregoire narrowly edged out Rossi after two vote re-counts and an unsuccessful Republican court challenge. Polls indicate that only a few percentage points separate the candidates in this 2008 rematch and it is expected to be one of the nation's tightest races November 4.

"The record ratings for the presidential debates prove voters want to hear directly from the candidates," said Pat Costello, vice president and station manager of KING 5, KING5.com, KONG 6/16 and NorthWest Cable News. "This debate may be last chance for voters to hear from the candidates in an unfiltered environment in this critically important election year."

The October 15 debate between the candidates for governor is sponsored by KING 5, The Seattle Times and KUOW Radio 94.9. It will be broadcast on KING 5, Northwest Cable News, KREM-TV, KUOW and on public radio stations around the state. In addition, the debate will be streamed on KING5.com. It is the final in a series of six gubernatorial debates taking place throughout the state and the only debate with statewide reach through television and radio.
