KGW NewsChannel 8's Studio On The Square To Hit A New Construction Milestone

PORTLAND, OR -- A major piece of KGW NewsChannel 8's "Studio on the Square" new high definition television studio in Pioneer Courthouse Square is scheduled for installation this week. Workers are making preparations to install a 10 foot tall, 25 foot wide customized window that will provide an expansive view of the Square. The enlarged window is one of the showpiece elements of the new studio, allowing Portlanders a first-hand look of the anchors and newsgathering process at the Studio. The window will replace a smaller one previously on site.

The excitement is scheduled to begin Thursday, November 20, when a frame will be put into place in preparation for the window. Scheduled installation of the window itself is set for Friday, November 21. The window is comprised of 8 panes of custom-engineered glass made from state of the art material designed for remote broadcast studios.

A Portland company, Culver Glass, is building the frame and installing the glass. The window faces the east side of the square toward the Courthouse.

"This window will provide a dynamic view of Portland's living room and the thriving downtown during our morning and noon newscasts and our new 7:00 PM show, Live @ 7," said DJ Wilson, KGW NewsChannel 8 president and general manager. "This is just one way that the Studio on the Square will be able to connect with viewers like never before."

KGW NewsChannel 8 will feature stories on the completion of this major piece of the studio construction in its evening and late newscasts and also at the "Studio on the Square" page at kgw.com at www.kgw.com/thesquare .

The KGW "Studio on the Square" is scheduled for completion in first quarter of 2009.
