KGW NewsChannel 8 and kgw.com set new records in November Sweeps

Belo Station is #1 for 36th consecutive Nielsen ratings period

PORTLAND, OR--KGW NewsChannel 8 earned its 36th consecutive win sign-on to sign-off in the November 2008 Nielsen ratings period which ended November 26. The station continued its local dominance in the 5:00-7:00 PM hours, with its 5:00 PM newscast of record capturing more than the combined audience share of the two closest competitors.

Election night on November 4 demonstrated the area's clear preference of KGW NewsChannel 8 and NBC News for vital news coverage. At 8:00 PM, at the threshold of history, more households watched KGW than all three of the competing stations combined.

November included the premiere of KGW NewsChannel 8's newest program, Live @ 7, hosted by Stephanie Stricklen. The local groundbreaking program that features a high level of viewer interactivity premiered on November 10 following the general election season. The program immediately captured an enthusiastic following. After only 12 days on the air the show earned a sweeps average just one share apart from the syndicated veteran program Entertainment Tonight.

In the month of November, Portlanders flocked to kgw.com and kgw.com/mobile, breaking all-time records for visitors to the site. kgw.com tallied 1,194,000 unique visitors, the first time the site exceeded 1 million unique visitors in a single month. Kgw.com now averages 700,000 unique visitors per month.

Use of kgw.com/mobile in November totaled 223,112 page views, also an all-time record for mobile, fueled by the site's special "real-time election results" application. Year to year, mobile usage increased by 90%, demonstrating the audience appetite to access news on demand and on the go.

"We're thrilled at how our viewers and online visitors have embraced our efforts to provide news and information on multiple platforms," said DJ Wilson, president and general manager of KGW Media Group. "The Live @ 7 program, kgw.com, and kgw.com/mobile all offer unique ways to interact and stay informed."
