KREM 2 Receives United Way's Pacesetter Award
Spokane, WA 1/27/2009 - KREM 2 was one of six local companies to be recognized for supporting the United Way. KREM 2 helped set the tone for the United Way's record-breaking 2008 fundraising campaign. Despite the economic downturn, the United Way brought in 4.45 million dollars, which is a $55,000 increase from the previous year.
KREM 2 took a leadership role and increased its giving by 87% and encouraged other companies to do the same. KREM 2 started its United Way fund raising campaign early and hosted a variety of station-wide meetings. KREM 2 developed a compelling video that encouraged employees to support the drive and a social service speaker was invited to tell his or her story at each meeting, helping give our employees a better understanding of the needs the United Way addresses. The results were clear: a 50 % increase in participation from KREM 2 employees, an 87% increase in contributions and the average gift was up $58.
KREM 2's increased participation was led by our President and General Manager, Jamie Aitken, joining the United Way board. "We have remarkable employees," said Aitken. "In a tough economy, they have shown amazing generosity toward those who have so little, yet need so much. By itself, 'Pacesetter' is only a word. It became a reality for KREM/KSKN because our employees cared and showed the rest of the community what the spirit of compassion can accomplish. I'm deeply grateful for their commitment to such a worthwhile cause," he said.
"The response from our donors was remarkable," said Tim Henkel, President and CEO of the Spokane County United Way. KREM 2 is proud to be part of the United Way's success this year.
