The KGW Studio on the Square is Ready for Air!

Belo station to launch with morning newscast

PORTLAND, OR -- After years of planning and months of construction, the new KGW Studio on the Square is set to go on the air Tuesday, March 17, 2009. The high definition studio will debut at 4:30 AM Tuesday, March 17, with the morning newscast, NewsChannel 8 at Sunrise. NewsChannel 8 at Noon and Live@7 will also broadcast live from the new studio.

KGW's Studio on the Square resides in the southeast corner of Pioneer Courthouse Square. It is KGW NewsChannel 8's second high definition broadcast studio. KGW is the only Portland station to broadcast its local news in high definition.

The KGW Studio on the Square is one of only a handful of downtown studios in the country modeled after the Today Show concept of directly connecting with the community through a publicly viewable location. The anchor desk is positioned directly in front of the expansive window into Portland's living room, enabling visitors to the square to see the anchors as they work.

"This has been a tremendous endeavor for the city, our friends at Pioneer Courthouse Square, and the KGW technical team," said DJ Wilson, president and general manager of KGW. "We are thrilled to part of this invigorating addition to the city and the community."

"This has been a major undertaking for us, and we're pleased to broadcast our newscasts from this historic Portland location," said Rod Gramer, KGW NewsChannel 8 news director. "We hope viewers will join us each morning, afternoon, and evening as we deliver the day's news and report the events that affect the lives of Oregonians."
