KGW NewsChannel 8 Leads all Portland TV Stations With Emmy Awards; Anchor Tracy Barry Receives Special Honor

KGW NewsChannel 8 was the winner of five awards given by the Northwest chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) in a competition that included the Seattle market. NewsChannel 8 received five of the eight awards given to Portland commercial television stations. KGW NewsChannel 8's was recognized for excellence in television journalism for best newscast, best breaking news, its online election reporting, and promotional spots.

The night held special significance for the station as its evening news anchor, Tracy Barry, was inducted in the Academy's Silver Circle. The Silver Circle honors media professionals who began their careers in television at least 25 years ago, and have made a significant contribution to the Northwest Chapter for at least part of their 25-year career. The Silver Circle is the highest honor awarded by the Academy to a journalist.

Tracy Barry is one of the most recognized and respected journalists in the Northwest. She began her career with KGW in 1985. Prior to her work at KGW, she worked at another Portland station, and before that worked at KSTW in Tacoma/Seattle and KTVB in Boise Idaho.
