KING 5 Wins 12 NW Awards

KING 5 won six awards from the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) of the Pacific Northwest and six Emmy awards from the Northwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) this past weekend. Most noteworthy, KING's investigative team captured first place from both the SPJ and NATAS for Start Freakin', a story that exposed serious problems at the region's largest emergency plumbing service. Produced by Kellie Cheadle, photographed and edited by Steve Douglas, and reported by Chris Ingalls, Start Freakin' spurred unprecedented reaction from viewers and a major investigation by state regulators. KING also won two other SPJ Investigative awards, winning second prize for Family or Foster Care and third place for Who Is Protecting the Most Vulnerable?

Jean Enersen and Chris Warren won Emmys for best news and weather anchors, respectively. Additional NATAS and SPJ awards went to KING for feature and general news coverage as well as stories by KING 5's Evening Magazine. A promotional campaign centered around the launch of Sounders soccer team also won an Emmy.

The SPJ awarded best overall web site to KING5.com.
