10th Annual Tom's Turkey Drive Was Biggest Ever

11,000+ dinners donated, and $95,000+ raised

Spokane, WA - The tenth annual Tom's Turkey Drive, headed by KREM 2's Chief Meteorologist Tom Sherry, was the most successful ever, providing over 11,000 turkey dinners for the 2nd Harvest Food Bank to distribute to families in need this Thanksgiving. $95,000 was also raised for 2nd Harvest to help families with food assistance. 2nd Harvest distributes food to 20 emergency food banks in Spokane County to provide a safety net for local families and seniors.

This was the tenth year that Tom Sherry headed up the six-week "Tom's Turkey Drive" campaign that culminated in a two-day turkey drive at all Spokane and Deer Park Rosauers stores on November 20-21.

This year, KREM 2, Rosauers, Numerica Credit Union and Downtown Auto Group teamed up with the Salvation Army and 2nd Harvest Food Bank for what has become the largest food drive in the Inland Northwest.

As in past years, Rosauers Supermarkets put together the complete turkey dinners for a family of four for a $15 donation, despite the fact that food prices are up again. Downtown Auto Group helped subsidize the cost of the meals, so the donation price remained the same as last year.

Many area businesses, organizations and churches gave donations and provided volunteers for the event. 93.7 The Cat helped promote the drive and Life Center Church in Spokane donated more than $23,000 to Tom's Turkey Drive.

KREM 2 is grateful to the thousands of Spokanites who purchased Thanksgiving dinners so that thousands of families in need will enjoy a great Thanksgiving dinner.

Tom's Turkey Drive recipients started lining up at the Salvation Army at 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 24 to receive their turkey diners. The distribution process took 12 hours, and in ten years, no one in need has left without a delicious meal to enjoy at home.
