KHOU, KVUE and WFAA join grocery partners to spur donations to the American Red Cross
HOUSTON, TX -- In response to the recent earthquake that devastated Haiti, three Belo stations - KHOU (Houston), KVUE (Austin) and WFAA (Dallas/Fort Worth) - have joined area grocery partners Randalls/Tom Thumb to raise funds that will assist with the disaster relief efforts. With viewers and customers who want to help, the team has launched a joint campaign that benefits the American Red Cross International Response Fund, which will provide much needed resources in Haiti.
Donations are being accepted now at Randalls Food Markets in Houston and Austin and Tom Thumb Food & Pharmacy locations in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Randalls/Tom Thumb stores have made it easy to reach out and provide aid. As customers check out at their neighborhood store, they will be asked to make a donation to the relief effort of any amount, which will be conveniently added to their grocery total.
The three Belo stations teamed up with Randalls and Tom Thumb for a similar effort in 2008 following Hurricane Ike that garnered over $1.4 million in relief funds and in 2005 following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita that raised more than $750,000. All funds were donated to the American Red Cross.
