KTVK-3TV Telethon to Benefit Haiti Earthquake Victims

17-Hour Telethon to Be Held on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Day

PHOENIX KTVK-3TV will honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr with a 17-hour telethon to benefit the victims of the Haiti earthquake. The "Arizona's Family Cares: Help for Haiti Telethon" will be held on Monday, January 18th from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. All donations from the telethon will benefit the victims of the earthquake in Haiti.

3TV has teamed up with Southwest Division of The Salvation Army for the telethon. The Salvation Army has had a presence in Haiti since 1950 and currently operates a school, clinics, a hospital, feeding programs, children's homes and church-related activities spread across two major facilities in Port au Prince. According to reports from Salvation Army staff in Port Au Prince the children's homes and clinics suffered major damage in the earthquake.

"We can't think of a better way to honor the legacy of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr than by coming together as one community to provide help for Haitians in need," said Nick Nicholson, President and General Manager of KTVK-3TV. "Each and every day we charge ourselves with the vision of informing, inspiring and engaging our viewers. It is during trying times like these our mission truly becomes reality."

3TV will go live in all newscasts on Monday, January 18th from The Salvation Army headquarters in Phoenix. 3TV will also dedicate program snipes during the day on Monday, January 18th to earthquake relief efforts. Viewers will be encouraged to donate to the relief fund by calling 602-302-8888, texting 'Haiti' to 52000 to make a $10 donation or by donating on-line at www.salvationarmycares.org.
