WCNC-TV to Host Haitian Relief Rally on Saturday, January 23rd at Southpark Mall

Charlotte, North Carolina - In response to the tremendous need of earthquake victims and their families in Haiti, WCNC - NewsChannel 36 will host a relief rally from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at SouthPark Mall in Charlotte on Saturday, January 23rd.

Radio partners Power 98 and WBAV - V101 and The Salvation Army will join NewsChannel 36 anchors at Center Court of SouthPark Mall to collect cash donations and talk with Charlotte residents and organizations with ties to the devastated island.

NewsChannel 36 anchor Dave Wagner - who accompanied the U.S. Air Force on a supply delivery to Port-au-Prince earlier this week - will show video and photographs from that trip as he talks about the people who have been affected by the incredible destruction. Wagner - the only news anchor from the Charlotte viewing area who traveled to Haiti this week - said we have a responsibility to help. "The impact that these relief efforts are having is enormous. Food, water and medicine are so badly needed. The more we as a community can give to these victims, the faster they will be able to recover" said Wagner.

Entertainment during the rally will include performances reflecting Haitian culture.

All donations will be collected and distributed by The Salvation Army for Haitian earthquake relief. Collection kettles for cash and checks will remain at the information desks of SouthPark Mall as well as Concord Mills Mall - for people who wish to make donations after Saturday's event.
