Boise, ID - KTVB has been awarded a national 2010 `Gabriel Award' for Community Awareness and Public Service. The Gabriel Awards are presented by the Catholic Academy for Communication Arts Professionals to honor film and television programming that "recognizes and upholds universally-recognized human values such as community, creativity, tolerance, justice, compassion and the dedication to excellence." This award honors KTVB's March for Youth: Rachel's Challenge community initiative.
In March 2009, KTVB produced and coordinated multiple televised and community events to promote tolerance, inclusion, civility and respect in Idaho's schools. Students were challenged to take a pledge to uphold these values in honor of the memory of Rachel Scott, a student killed at Columbine High School in 1999.
"We are committed to building a stronger community by contributing directly to schools, families, and kids," says Doug Armstrong, KTVB's president & general manager. "Rachel Scott was a great role model, and we are honored to receive the prestigious Gabriel Award recognizing our service"
