KGW NewsChannel 8 is Portland's #1 News Station

Belo station's news wins all day all night all week.

Portland, OR - KGW NewsChannel 8 continued as the leading Portland television station in the May 2010 Nielsen sweeps period which ended May 26. Nielsen's new measurement system of local people meters is still less than a year old in the Portland market. In the new measuring currency, KGW NewsChannel 8 retained its leadership position in news in average household share mornings, at noon, and evenings. The station also led in the key advertising demographic of adults 25-54 sign-on to sign-off.

Morning viewers chose KGW NewsChannel 8 throughout the week. The station was most watched in average household shares Monday through Sunday from 5-9 AM and also Monday-Friday from 5-9 AM with the combined strength of KGW NewsChannel 8 at Sunrise broadcasting from the KGW Studio on the Square, and NBC's Today Show.

In the evening news race, KGW NewsChannel 8 had the most watched local and national news in average share in both households and adults 25-54 in the block from 5:00-7:00 PM Monday-Sunday. The station's news and information program, Live @ 7, continues as the only local program weekdays in the time period, offering viewers the convenience of getting the top stories at a time that fits their busy schedule.

At 11 PM, KGW NewsChannel 8 led in adults 25-54 Monday-Sunday in average share. In addition, KGW NewsChannel 8 was the only station that gained share over its prime time lead-in. Weekdays KGW NewsChannel 8 increased its household share by 33% over NBC's last quarter hour as the network continues to rebuild its prime time slate.

The station's website, kgw.com, recently introduced its iPhone app, allowing users to get kgw.com's award winning content in the iPhone format. kgw.com holds the Oregon Associated Press awards for best website and best use of the online medium.
