WFAA to Broadcast FC Dallas of Major League Soccer July 3, Game in Prime Time, Live from Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas Followed by Fireworks Spectacular
Dallas, Texas - Sports fans around the globe have been glued to World Cup Soccer coverage for weeks. With the extreme amount of attention currently focused on the world's most popular spectator sport, WFAA has announced it will broadcast live Major League Soccer (MLS) action between FC Dallas and the Kansas City Wizards on Saturday, July 3, at 7:30 p.m.
This marks the first time the ABC affiliate has aired a local soccer game originating from Pizza Hut Park in Frisco.
Prior to the game WFAA is set to air a half hour, locally produced special updating World Cup events, including Team USA's progress. The program will be hosted by WFAA sports anchor Joe Trahan, and also focus on FC Dallas youth soccer programs and the impact of the club's efforts in north Texas.
Following the FC Dallas soccer game, the station will televise a fireworks display in the skies above the stadium, introduced at 9:40 p.m. by WFAA chief meteorologist Pete Delkus. This marks the 5th year the City of Frisco has partnered with FC Dallas for Independence Day fireworks.
"We are pleased to work directly with FC Dallas on this evening of local entertainment," said Mike Devlin, WFAA president and general manager. "For those who cannot attend the game and festivities, they can enjoy it from home on WFAA."
As part of the July 3, evening of events, FC Dallas will also present the annual "Tickets for Troops" night where fans, season ticket holders and sponsors donate tickets to active/reserve military personnel. An anticipated 5,000 military personnel are expected to participate. People with active US Military ID are eligible for discounted $10 tickets at the FC Dallas box office. Additionally, on the second consecutive year, FC Dallas will welcome the American Fallen Soldiers Project for a special halftime portrait presentation to a local soldier's family from Fort Worth.
"WFAA is one of the founding sponsors at Pizza Hut Park, and has enjoyed a long relationship with FC Dallas," added Devlin. "We are excited to be part of this special night of local programming."
