KGW NewsChannel 8 Kicks Off KGW School Supply Drive
Belo station's third annual campaign targets need for school success
PORTLAND, OR - KGW NewsChannel 8 in partnership with OnPoint Community Credit Union, University of Phoenix, and the local Toyota dealers today kicked off the 3rd annual KGW School Supply Drive with the purpose of sending 5,000 local area children back to school with the basic school supplies that they couldn't otherwise afford. In Oregon, almost half of all children live in low-income families and cannot afford even the most basic school supplies.
"More than ever, a good education is the stepping stone to success. Yet for many children, a lack of basic school supplies stands between them and success. It takes so little to make a meaningful difference in these children's lives," said DJ Wilson, President and General Manager of KGW NewsChannel 8. "We appreciate the participation of our business partners who recognize the importance of this issue."
Through Labor Day, the drive encourages viewers to make cash and loose supply donations of any amount or to simply purchase a $25 Virtual Pack, which will supply one student with the basic supplies needed for an entire year. All donations will benefit local area schools and will be distributed with the help of Schoolhouse Supplies, the non-profit Free Store for Teachers.
