KGW NewsChannel 8 is Portland's #1 News Station
Belo station is #1 sign-on to sign-off
PORTLAND, OR - KGW NewsChannel 8 continued as the leading Portland television station in the July 2010 Nielsen sweeps period which ended July 28. KGW NewsChannel 8 retained its news leadership position in average household ratings and share mornings, at noon, and evenings, and at 11 PM. The station also led in the key advertising demographic of adults 25-54 sign-on to sign-off.
Morning viewers clearly chose KGW NewsChannel 8 all morning. The station was most watched in average household rating and share Monday through Friday from 5-9 AM with the combined strength of KGW NewsChannel 8 at Sunrise from the KGW Studio on the Square, and NBC's Today Show.
In the evening news race, KGW NewsChannel 8 had the most watched local and national news in average household rating, share, and adults 25-54 in the block from 5:00-7:00 PM Monday-Sunday. In the key demographic of adults 25-54, KGW NewsChannel 8 attracted nearly double the audience of the closest competitor.
The station's news and information program, Live @ 7, continued as the only local program weekdays in the time period, offering viewers the convenience of getting the top stories at a time that fits their busy schedule. A surprise visit by the actor playing the "Old Spice Guy" in the hit commercial campaign demonstrated the strong online participation of the program's audience.
Weekdays at 1 PM, KGW NewsChannel 8 earned the leading position, commanding a 60% advantage over its closest competitor.
The station's website, KGW.com, continues to demonstrate impressive growth as consumers increasingly rely on news delivered online and via mobile devices. In the month, KGW.com earned 12 million page views, and had 1.4 million monthly unique visitors. The website commanded 88,755 average unique visitors per day. Demonstrating the demand for mobile news, KGW.com earned 1.2 million mobile page views.
KGW.com holds the Oregon Associated Press awards for best website and best use of the online medium.
