KING 5 News Staffer Named Photographer of the Year in Regional Contest

National Press Photographers Association Honors KING 5's Douglas Burgess

Top Five in Clip Competition All Tied to KING 5 News

Seattle, WA - The National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) named KING 5 News photographer Douglas Burgess as winner of the 2010 West General photographer of the year. The NPPA web site says of Burgess, "His work this year has been amazing!"

Fellow KING 5 photographer Ron Sanford ended up in a point total tie with Burgess for first place, with a tiebreaker rule going to Burgess for top honors. The top five photographers in the 2010 West General clip contest all shot for KING 5 News.

"News photojournalists are storytellers. They are the backbone of what we do," says Mark Ginther, Executive News Director of KING 5, KONG 6/16, and NWCN. "KING 5 has a rich tradition of great photojournalism and our photo staff strives for excellence every day."

In addition to Doug Burgess and Ron Sanford, six other current or former KING 5 photographers placed in the top 17 of the regional clip competition. They are: Scott Jensen, Steve Douglas, Adam Tischler, Pete Cassam, Ryan Coe and Carolyn Hall. And Matt Mrozinski, who joined KING 5 at the end of 2010, was the second place finisher in NPPA's East Top region.

The NPPA Television Quarterly Clip Contest recognizes outstanding work by NPPA members. It's a competition by photographers for photographers judged by a panel of peers. The mission of the NPPA is dedicated to the advancement of visual journalism and works to promote its role as a vital public service. More information is available at
