KGW NewsChannel 8 Honored with 5 Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards

Belo station is the only Oregon television station recognized

PORTLAND, OR KGW NewsChannel 8 earned five awards in the prestigious regional Edward R. Murrow awards competition which are awarded by the Radio and Television Digital News Association. The awards honor outstanding achievements in electronic journalism. KGW NewsChannel 8 was the only Oregon television station recognized in the competition.

The station was honored for best video breaking news coverage for its reporting of the devastating Aumsville tornado. Ongoing coverage of the missing child, Kyron Horman, was recognized in the two award categories of best video continuing coverage and best video news documentary. Video feature reporting also earned first place. KGW NewsChannel 8's multi-part investigation of homeowners forced to purchase flood insurance earned first place for best video news series.

KGW NewsChannel 8 competed in the region 1 large market television division. The four-state region includes Oregon, Washington, Montana, and Alaska. The large television market contest includes the much larger market of Seattle.
